The interesting thing about Social Media…

Social media, what an amazing invention, it’s a tool that we use to connect the world together, to express our emotions and opinions freely with the full acceptance of the community. The wonderful world of social media is one that will help us in the development of this glorious planet we call home…

NOT REALLY……..

L.gif

Social media really isn’t that great…. it tears us apart more than connects us together, it doesn’t help us as much as we like, and they have become a pretty big problem among millennials, to point out a few, check these out:

ONE STUDY PROVED THAT 25% OF YOUNG ADULTS DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO BOIL AN EGG!

A SURVEY FOUND THAT 1/3 OF YOUNG ADULTS DON’T KNOW HOW TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB!

LIGHT

ANOTHER SURVEY FOUND THAT 40% OF MILLENNIALS CANNOT SEW A BUTTON!

BUTTON

Who should we blame for this?

Well I bring social media to the stand… we wouldn’t be in the situation we are now if we just switched off our phones, tablets, iPads, computers, and any other smart anything that we have in our lives we wouldn’t be this dumb… we wouldn’t be dealing with global warming. We shouldn’t be focusing on ISIS, we should be more focused on how fast the ice is melting… we should be looking around to see the wonders of the world and not the wonderful frappe that your friend found “Instagram worthy”.

I hope we find a solution to this madness or else we might not have anything left but madness…

Quote of the Day:

Call me crazy but I imagine a world where we smile when we have low batteries, because that will mean we are one bar closer to humanity

Happy Teacher’s Day!!! :)

It’s the one day teachers are appreciated most, it’s the day we tell our teachers how much we care about them, and it’s also the day we get to take their place in teaching….

Yes that’s right, in my school we have a “Student Teacher Take-over” where select students step into their teachers shoes for a day, I’m going to be my music teacher, Sir Richard and probably the best thing about this is the fact that I’ll be teaching my own classmates… and the fact that i’ll be exempted from academics on that day (and I’m giving my classmates a quiz which I don’t have to take!)

So I hope I make a good teacher, I mean, I’m pretty sure being a teacher is really hard, I see it everyday, they’re talking and talking, trying to help their students but, some just refuse to listen…

Student Quote of the day:

“The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart.”

Parent Teacher Conference…

So the day finally came… for the first PTC of the school year… I was nervous…. like freaking out sort of nervous… I had been so stressed in the first quarter I was unsure I had a good grade, and my parents… well they have high expectations… I’ve always had a line of nine my whole life, but I was really unsure this time…

We were in the car and I was thinking, “I’ll be happy if I get anything above a general average of 85…” I didn’t want to get my hopes up because I was certain I almost failed…

It was my dad’s birthday which in my opinion made the stakes even higher. We were in line to meet my adviser when a classmate of mine called me up and said, “Hey look, you made it to the honor roll…”, I looked at him, confused, kind of asking myself if he saw the right name, I peer into the classroom to look at the list, and to my amazement, I saw my name under a sign that read, “With Honers”!

I was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo relived….. I had one of the top scores and a general average of 92

I guess it just shows that hard work does pay off… 🙂

Student Quote of the day:

“I am inimitable, I am an original…”

My Singapore vacation!

I know it’s a little late to talk about last summer break, because we are part way through our 1st Quarterly Exams, but I thought it would be great to share my wonderful experience in the greatest city in the world, no, not New York,  Singapore! (Yes, that was a Hamilton pun…)

I’ve been to Singapore a total of 3 times… the first time it was just me and my dad for 3 days, because my moms passport was two months from expiring, and no one told us it had to be AT LEAST 6 months before the expiration for her to leave the country! The second time it was me, my dad, AND MY MOM! We had a wonderful time, and we stayed for a whole week, my dad put me in charge of navigation, so I got to lead the trip pretty much… and just 2 months ago, I went back . again . for the 3rd. time….. that’s how much I love this country, I go back 3 times….. we stayed for 8 days, and it was AMAZING as always!!! The only downside that the fact that we went during the rainy season, so, from time to time there would be some drizzling, and occasionally some heavy rain…

Today I’m telling you ALL about my last trip there…

Let’s start with the first day.

So we got to Changi Airport, which is stunning as always

And the place we stayed in had this wonderful lap pool, and a kiddie pool that was like a freaking water park! On the second day we went on some classic SG tours… first of was the DUCK© Tour! Where we got one of the best views of Singapore!

DUCK TOUR

(Yes, that’s me…)

Then we went to the Hop on Hop off Bus Tour, we sat on the second level!

It was also my mom’s birthday!

This was taken at Twinings Tea! We go there every time we go to SG, I don’t necessarily know why…

Then we went up to the restaurant above the observation deck called Ce La Vi… I went there last year for my birthday…

They have stunning views up there!

The next day we went to Sentosa to ride the Cable Car, ride the Luge, and go to the S.E.A. Aquarium

Quote –

“When senseless acts of tragedy remind us that nothing here is promised, not one day. We live through times when hate and fear seem stronger. We rise and fall, and light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer, and love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside. Now fill the world with music, love, and pride.”

                                                                     -Lin Manuel Miranda

That’s it! There were 11 questions, but I think that’s good enough…

Now fill the world with music, love, and pride.”

Bye for now! 🙂

Computer Class

Student quote of the day:

“Nothing is impossible, the word itself says, I’m possible!”

-Audrey Hepburn

Right now I’m in computer class wondering what time today this will upload because the internet is incredibly SLOW! I live in the Philippines, and as you know we have one of the slowest internet connections in Asia.

As you might have seen in my previous posts this blog is a part of my grade, honestly if it were not for Computer class I probably wouldn’t even have thought of putting up this blog, but I do not have any regrets, I’ve been enjoying writing my life on this blog! One thought that comes to mind right now is why are the monitors so old! 😦

Anyway I’m about to eat lunch so I’ll be on my way, the internet has finally sped up a bit, I hope you are enjoying my weekly ‘diary’.

(You’ve spent way to much time on the computer, go outside and have some fun!)

M.A.T.H.

index

Today we are here to discuss one of the most frustrating things on this planet, math…

Right now I will tell you that the four letters to this simple word are no coincidence, M.A.T.H. stands for “Mental Abuse To Humans”. Unless you want to be a rocket scientist, or  a mathematician, there is really no use to finding out what  24x^2 -6xy -9y^2 is

The answer BTW is  3(2x +y)(4x -3y) no I did NOT look it up… ;D

The truth is, I’m not that good at math, it got way to complicated when they added the alphabet…  and personally I don’t think Math should me imposed on people, I mean, some peoples brains are designed for other things like art, music, poetry, writing, performing, and the such. Like the famous saying, “you cannot make a fish climb a tree, and expect it to succeed”, so don’t be ashamed if you’re not good at one thing or another, that just means it’s not for you.

Anyway my point is, plain and simple

I DON’T LIKE MATH…

HELLO FELLOW INHABITANTS OF THE EARTH, AND BEYOND!

Welcome fellow students, teachers, normal people, and aliens on the planet Zorb, to my little blog! My name is Leia Gleason, I’m a Junior High school student who has just transferred from being home schooled! So you can imagine the wake-up call I received on my first week… I made this blog for two reasons: (1) I wanted to share my take on one of the most important phases/times in everyone’s life, high school, no, not because you learn a lot or because it’s hard (so true though…) but because I want to share the memories I make along the way (the drama, the chaos, the comedic moments, and more!) and (2) this is actually a part of our Computer class… (thanks Miss Cristy!)

So I hope you join me in this journey that we call STUDENT LIFE, thank you, and once again, WELCOME!
